Internship with the Department of Justice

Joshua Steier

Joshua Steier is a senior majoring in Mathematics with minors in Computer Science and Physics. This summer he worked in New York City as an intern within the United States Department of Justice. While there, he created various programs that automated the IP lookup process to assist with identifying location information. He analyzed malware and learned about cryptography to understand hashing algorithms, which assist in computer forensics.

During his internship, Joshua had the opportunity to learn more about the intelligence community and criminal profiling. “I enjoy investigating and learning new things, so I make it a personal goal to learn at least one new thing every day.” One of his projects was to organize telephone records based on frequency of incoming and outgoing calls.
