‘Empire’ Ratings Rise Earns Fox A Demo Win, ‘Criminal Minds’ Matches Low

While no longer the blockbuster it was, Empire (1.8/7) proved the doubters wrong last night in its penultimate episode of 2017. With a strong hour full of prison flashbacks, suburban revelations, boozy sibling bonding and a delusional death, what may be making Fox even happier is that the ratings for the Lee Daniels and Danny Strong created drama climbed 13% in the fast affiliates key demo from last week’s series low.

Last night’s Empire result, which could see an adjustment like last week did, plus a steady Star (1.2/4) delivered a Wednesday primetime 18-49 win for the still Murdoch owned net. CBS was tops in viewership with 7.01 million watching Survivor (1.8/7), SEAL Team (1.1/4) and Criminal Minds (0.9/4), but Fox easily won the demo category with a 1.5/6 rating.

Both the vet reality show and the Navy warriors series were even with their November 29

TV Ratings Wednesday: ‘Empire,’ ‘Modern Family’ rise, ‘Criminal Minds’ ties series low

To the Masked Mailbox! NW wants to know:
“Most of your columns are on your involvement in pilot screening and initial scheduling, but what of your role in the evolution of a show? You were obviously in the loop on the initial rounds of the dreaded ‘notes from the network suits,’ but shows evolve after the premiere, too. Show elements are a product of negotiations between the creatives and the suits that never ends until the show does. Where would you have been in such mid-game drama behind the scenes? Do you have any stories of watching such drastic changes unfold in a show you initially bought and the headaches/relief it brought the network? I’d love for you to write about those.”
The scheduler usually becomes the consiglieri to the head of entertainment and thus has the ability to whisper in his

‘Criminal Minds’ Losing Battle For Ratings Despite Matthew Gray Gubler And Kirsten Vangsness [Opinion]

Criminal Minds experienced a slight uptick in ratings last week for Season 13 Episode 7, “Dust and Bones,” but it hardly takes a mathematician to see overall the trend, despite heroic efforts from the remaining cast, including the capable actor Matthew Gray Gubler and the amazingly perky Kirsten Vangsness as Penelope Garcia.

Even cameo visits from Shemar Moore don’t give any significant relief from the post-Thomas Gibson blues that have beleaguered the 13-year-old crime drama. Criminal Minds had a great run, with extremely high ratings for 11 seasons. Criminal Minds had over 10 million viewers, and many of them had a strong interest in the show.

Season 13 of Criminal Minds has not been the same. Season 12 saw a sharp decline in viewers, but in Season 13, Criminal Minds appears to be going down like the Titanic.

Criminal Minds is making an effort tonight with “Neon Terror.” In tonight’s Criminal Minds, a

TV Ratings Wednesday: ‘Chicago PD,’ Criminal Minds’ and ‘Designated Survivor’ go low, World Series rises

Time to answer some questions from the Masked Mailbox. First from KT:
“I have a couple FOX-related questions I wanted to ask you. First, just curious, what was the rationale behind your decision to move ‘American Idol’ to Wednesday-Thursday and start a comedy block on Tuesday led by ‘Glee’ in 2010? Second, although ‘Empire’ is still a solid performer in the 18-49 demo, it saw a decline in overall viewers last season. What do you think is the main reason for that?”
There were three reasons why we made the move of “Idol” to Wednesday and Thursday. I would say the primary reason was Thursday night was the most important night for advertising, especially automotives and movies. Putting “Idol” on the night, we felt, would allow for even higher CPMs for the show. Second, the move gave us three consecutive nights for

TV Ratings: ‘Riverdale’ Takes Week 2 Dip, Fox Tops Wednesday

Fox nabbed a Wednesday victory with a steady outing of Empire. The drama topped all other broadcast offerings with an average 1.8 rating among adults 18-49. (Star followed with a 1.3 rating in the key demo.)

Just behind Empire were similarly steady episodes of CBS’ Survivor and ABC’s Modern Family — each of which averaged a 1.7 rating among adults 18-49. But CBS beat ABC to No. 2 status for the night, even if SEAL Team dipped to a low 1.0 rating before an even Criminal Minds (1.1 adults). ABC’s other comedies — The Goldbergs (1.4 adults), Speechless (1.1 adults), American Housewife (1.4 adults) — were also steady, as was Designated Survivor (0.8 adults). The narrative at NBC was largely the same, where The Blacklist (0.9 adults), Law Order: SVU (1.2 adults) and Chicago P.D. (1.1 adults) were all virtually unmoved from their performances last week.

Riverdale may have been the night’s

TV Ratings Wednesday: ‘Empire’ and ‘Modern Family’ lead a down night

Broadcast primetime live + same-day ratings for Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2017

The numbers for Wednesday:

A week ago, the collective 18-49 rating for ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC on Wednesday was down about 30 percent from premiere week in 2016. This week, every show on the Big 4 fell from its premiere rating.

“Empire” and “Modern Family” tied for the lead in the demographic with 1.9 ratings, down 0.5 and 0.2 from their respective debuts last week. “Empire” tied its series low, and “Modern Family,” which tied “Empire” for the first time, also matched its third-lowest mark ever.

At ABC, “The Goldbergs” (1.6), “American Housewife” (1.4) and “Designated Survivor” (0.9) all slipped two tenths of a point vs. last week, while “Speechless” was off a tenth. All three of NBC’s dramas lost a tenth vs. last week as well.

“Survivor” (1.6) and “Criminal Minds” (series

Criminal Minds: Season 13 Ratings

Criminal Minds TV show on CBS: season 13 ratings (canceled or season 14 renewal?)

Although Shemar Moore left at the end of its 11th season and Thomas Gibson was fired early into the 12th, the Criminal Minds TV show still scored a 13th season on CBS. The ratings did slip some during 2016-17, but within respectable limits for such a long-lived TV series. How long can its luck hold? Will Criminal Minds be cancelled or renewed for season 14? Stay tuned.

A CBS police procedural, season 13 of Criminal Minds stars Joe Mantegna, Paget Brewster, Matthew Gray Gubler, A.J. Cook, Kirsten Vangsness, Adam Rodriguez, Daniel Henney, and Aisha Tyler. Moore returns in a guest-starring capacity. The series follows the FBI’s elite Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) out of Quantico, Virginia. The BAU remains dedicated to understanding predators’ motive and triggers, in
