Shemar Moore Dishes On Wanting to Be a ‘Family Man,’ His Fight Against Aging and Why He Loves

For his new role on S.W.A.T., the already-ripped actor and former male model has had to put on more muscle than ever before, and that meant learning to eat like he’s never eaten in his life.

“I’ve spent most of my career like, cutting weight and trying to look good,” he recalled. “But now I’m actually trying to gain weight. And that doesn’t mean pizza, beer, and hot dogs and burritos. It means 220-300 grams of protein a day.”

But for Moore, staying fit and healthy hasn’t just been something he’s done for his career, it’s been “a way of life.”

Shemar Moore takes a leap of faith from ‘Criminal Minds’ to ‘SWAT’

Shemar Moore is ready to make a statement. The Oakland, California, native is starring in CBS’ new S.W.A.T., which is based on ABC’s original series of the same name (1975-76) and the successful 2003 feature film directed by Clark Johnson and starring Samuel L. Jackson, Michelle Rodriguez, Colin Farrell and LL Cool J.

This moment has been a long time coming. Moore, 47, went to the University of Santa Clara on a baseball scholarship, had a 90 mph fastball and was taught how to throw a forkball by Dave Stewart. Moore once aspired to be a professional player, but he started modeling as a student and was introduced to the world in the mid-’90s on CBS’ The Young and The Restless as sexy newcomer Malcolm Winters. From there he hosted signature series The Soul Train, starred in films such as The Brothers alongside talent like Morris

The Hilarious Way Criminal Minds’ Cast Used To Prank Shemar Moore On The Set

Also, you gotta love that Shemar Moore refers to it by saying they’d punk him with “fake rats” in that TV Guide video, but there weren’t any actual fake rats in his story. Just balled up pieces of tape, which speaks to how gullible he is. Perhaps the cast and crew started off with a legitimate fake rat from a Halloween store (or a prop department, considering where they are), and they eventually just got further and further from reality until they ended up on a bunch of tape standing in for a real animal. Kudos to all, if so.

‘SWAT’s Shemar Moore bulked up even more for new role

Shemar Moore says his new TV alter-ego, “S.W.A.T.” protagonist Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson, is “Derek Morgan on steroids” — alluding to the FBI agent he played on “Criminal Minds” for 11 seasons.

“I gained 10 to 12 pounds for this role … I changed my diet and hired a friend who cooked for me,” says Moore. “I ate five meals a day. Of course I want to look good for vanity reasons but I need the physicality and the presence [for the role] — when I met the men of the LA and San Diego S.W.A.T. teams, strength was a big part of what they do.”

“S.W.A.T.” is the third iteration of the franchise, which aired as an ABC series starring Robert Urich (1975-76) and returned as a 2003 movie with stars Samuel L. Jackson and Colin Farrell. “The only thing similar to [the series] is the main theme song and the only

Shemar Moore Returns to Criminal Minds and Reveals His Baby Girl …

Jamie Kennedy returned to Criminal Minds this week as the infamous cannibal unsub Floyd Feylinn “Lucky” Ferell, but that’s not the return anyone was focused on.

Instead, it was the cameo appearance by Derek Morgan (Shemar Moore) that had everyone on the edge of their seats — but the two are connected. The team investigating a new string of murders matching Lucky’s MO brought back some serious PTSD for Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness) since he was the unsub the team was chasing the night she was shot 10 years ago.

Morgan returned to the BAU to give Garcia the “baby girl” shot of love that she needed to get her back in the right working headspace, and TV Guide caught up with Moore to talk about making time to stop by Criminal Minds to help his girl out.
